Here are the Weber paraffin cubes I used to start the charcoal. You can use a couple of sheets of newspaper if you wish, but these cubes work very well and aren't very expensive. They burn clean and don't leave behind any taste or odor.

I used about 10lbs of natural charcoal and placed the chimney starter in the middle. I don't recommend using charcoal lighter fluid... you can end up with a lighter fluid taste and odor during the smoking process.
