Streptocarpus (Ladyslippers) is a beautiful perennial that makes a wonderful houseplant. It likes temperatures between 55 and 80°F, not too much direct sun, and prefers a well-drained soil. Water it often enough so that it doesn't dry out completely, but don't over water: Streptocarpus plants don't like soggy roots. For best results, feed with a good fertilizer once a month.

Time to start feeding houseplants again! Spring to fall is the time of active growth. Our leafy indoor residents benefit from fertilizer to replenish nutrients. Feed monthly with a water-soluble fertilizer, or scratch in slow-release fertilizer or compost for a boost. Just check label instructions for guidelines -- too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

So many shamrocks, and a few ferns too! Create a St. Patty's Day tablescape or green up a windowsill. Come May, tuck them into a shade planter for texture. You don't need luck to keep oxalis looking good. Just allow soil to dry slightly between waterings and feed monthly with an all-purpose fertilizer spring to fall. You can keep oxalis bulbs year to year, but cut them a few months' slack. Reduce watering when they start dieing back naturally, then begin again when they sprout anew.
