Consolidated B-24 Liberator. Lead ship.

"First Sergeant" was a war-weary used to assemble large formations. Once the formation was formed up, this aircraft returned to base.

B-24 Liberator....My Uncle Chester Guzik was the flight engineer on one during WW2...his plane was shot down over Holland on a return bombing run from Germany...they dropped bombs over a flack factor that made the AA ball bearings...three crew members made it out of the plane before it crashed...Uncle Chester sadly was not one of them...he perished along with four others in the crash. He is buried over in Holland.

My grandfather was a pilot of this beast during the last part of WWII. He flew 16 combat missions over Austria and Southern Germany. Adrian D.
