WULFENITE San Francisco Mine (Cerro Prieto Mine), Cerro Prieto, Cucurpe, Mun. de Cucurpe, Sonora, Mexico The San Francisco Mine in Sonora, Mexico started out as a gold mine but, as mining progressed, shifted into production of Silver and Molybdenum before closing in 1912. It is the Molybdenum minerals that caused it to be re-opened in the 1980s for its phenomenal Wulfenite and Mimetite specimens. This period produced some of the finest Wulfenites ever found - from anywhere on the planet.
