Oktoberfest: Munich, Germany (September 19-October 4, 2015): You can thank a 19th century horse race to mark the wedding of the Ludwig Crown Prince of Bavaria to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen for what has become a two-week celebration of beer, wine and food (and more beer) in Germany’s Bavarian capital.
The Noriker developed from the heavy warmblood horses of the Roman and in the alps domestic races in the province Noricum (today Bavaria and Austria). 1565 came then the breed under control of the Salzburger of archbishops, who put on also the first Stutbuch. Spanish and Burgundische Hengste was imported, which brought size and elegance into the race. Salzburg was and remains the main breed area of the Noriker.
