Remagen, Germany: is a town in the Rhineland-Palatinate. South of Bonn, it sits on the Left bank of the Rhine. It has several old buildings, castles, churches, and monuments, including the remains of Ludendorff Bridge, the last bridge on the Rhine to be captured by the U.S. 9th Armored Division during WWII. I visited the town in 1983 with one of my Bonn roommates. We rode our bicycles down the Rhine, made photos of the ruined bridge, then spent the afternoon at the home of his parents.
