Da Nang Quan’s menu focuses on dishes from the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang: baby clams, tiny steamed rice cakes called banh beo, the spicy noodle soup bun bo hue. Its most dramatic-looking dish may be the mi quang, an island of turmeric-dyed rice noodles rising above a shallow golden sea," writes Jonathan Kaufman in a 2015 story for the San Francisco Chronicle. OAKLAND: Uptown's Parlour is much more than pizza and cocktails. It was opened by Linda Bradford, Travis Dutton and Patrick Lynch, who own Bar 355 next door. They always wanted to open a restaurant in the Uptown area, best known for the Fox Theater, and this fulfills that desire. To mastermind the food they brought in Jason Tuley, last seen at TBD and Gitane in SF. Steamed clams, lamb sausage and crostini ($14) is one of the top dishes on Parlour’s ever-changing seasonal menu.

KronnerBurger rises in Oakland: Kronner’s hamburger ($12) is messy but precisely constructed with a generously buttered and toasted potato bun and a charred patty with a blood-red interior — the waiters never fail to point out that that’s the chef’s preference. While the beef is the star, it wouldn’t shine nearly as brightly without the thick slather of white cheddar mayonnaise, charred red onions, house-made pickles and at least four layers of crunchy iceberg lettuce.
TEMESCAL: Bowl'd BBQ Korean Stone Grill is the latest restaurant from the Chi Moon and Jessica Oh duo, the family behind Albany's Bowl'd Korean Rice Bar and Berkeley's Spoon Korean Bistro. The new Bowl'd is situated amid the delicious scrum of Korean restaurants in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood.
