This week at Camp Catholic we are exploring the Catholic Liturgical Year! Join us to learn more about the calendar of the Church and the symbols, devotions, and colors that enrich our faith throughout each season. Perfect for catechism classes, vacation bible school, and Bible study!
Catholic home altar in black walnut with black cherry Budded Cross, quatrefoils, Holy Water font, and rosary hangers. Religious symbols and ornamentation were particularly important in the early Church when much of the laity were illiterate. "Budded Cross" - The four arms with three buds give the name Apostle’s Cross, with one bud for each apostle, while Matthew 16:24 invites us all to become apostles, or disciples, of Christ.
I don't know the origin of this image, but look at the proliferation of symbols! That looks like the moon under her feet (as in the Immaculate Conception), the Immaculate Heart on her chest, and the rosary in her hand.
