Yellow skunk Cabbage (Lysichiton americanus) growing near a brook in Asbro, Sweden. This plant is a member of the Araceae family. The flowering part consists of a large erect spadix surrounded by a single petal-like spathe. It emits a foul smelling odour similar to skunk or garlic. This attracts flies, beetles and midges that help to pollinate it. The flower is also able to generate heat, which is hot enough to melt surrounding snow and helps to carry the scent into the air. c0068282_12.jpg
