Between 900-1200 A.D., many Native Americans lived in the Mississippi Valley.  They constructed earthen mounds throughout the valley, leading many to identify them as the “mound builders”. This panel of the mural depicts missionary and chaplain, Father Jacques Marquette, and explorer Louis Joliet. Together, these men led the first French expedition down the Mississippi in hopes to find a rumored big river to the south that might lead to the Pacific. -Old Town Cape
