1970s A sample of free machine embroidered lace made with a vanishing muslin support. Random, completely free pattern in white machine thread. The straight stitch has been used to form free lines of stitch across the support fabric. At some stage the lines cross each other, this forms the lace when the support fabric is removed. The vanishing muslin has then been ironed away; small blackened pieces of fibre are visible under the stitching. The thread remaining has formed the lace.
