Dante describes Lucifer as a defeated angel, but not in a grotesque way. According to Dante’s view Lucifer has a great bulk, but appears almost human because evil is a human trait. Lucifer is trapped in ice from the waist down. His enormous head has three faces with different colors, each of which are beneath enormous bat wings that create the wind and form the ice. While tears flow from his six eyes, his three mouths devour the damned.
