Xolotl, twin brother of Quetzalcoatl in his aspect as the planet Venus (the evening star), when as a penitent he descended to the underworld. Xolotl too descended, as a dog, to bring forth bones for the creation of man. The two sides of this Aztec carving show the death-spirit and the sun.
