‘Hangzhou waves’ by JDS architects, Hangzhou, China Winning competition proposal. Luxury hotel and office complex. Placed back-to-back, the pair of structures mirror each other in form, opening a central void into each of the volumes which introduces natural daylight. Comprised of small cubes, the exterior appearance of the hotel is a result of a series of stepped terraces  which extend from each room providing surfaces for vegetation.

The Hive, by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios - The iconic roof-form was designed using award-winning software developed from Bentley’s Generative Components. This allowed the structural & environmental parameters to be incorporated in such a way that the seven structurally independent pyramid shaped roofs could be constructed in solid laminated timber, whilst providing the optimum level of daylight & natural ventilation. The use of timber saved 2000 tonnes of CO2, compared to steel & concrete
