The castle of #Xativa.  Build on a mountain overseeing the south and the West thus protecting the city and the southern borders of the Aragon kingdom against the Castilians and other invaders.  The castle today exists out of 2 parts. The Eastern part was build by the Arabs in the 11th century. They lived in these lands for 8 centuries before they got kicked out by the catholics. From the world of silk I got catapulted into the world of the #Albufera lake.  A lake that lays right next to the city of #Valencia and that has a rich tradition of fishing and rice field cultivation.  Stay tuned for more ;-) #ValenciaChallenge #ValenciaTurisme

Back to the #Albufera lake story!  The lake is connected to the sea but gets closed off during winter so the water switches back and forth from salt to fresh water in a year.  This makes the lake special and it attracts a big variety of fish and birds! Hence why it's registered as a nature reserve aaaand... it's still inside the city limits of Valencia which is pretty cool me thinks.  City with nature reserve kinda rocks my boat. pun intended :-) Now the boat you see here is used for eel…
