Due to its immersion in cerebrospinal fluid, the brain is actually naturally but neutrally buoyant inside the skull, and in effect has a net weight of only 25 grams (as opposed to its actual mass of ~1400g). If this were not the case, the brain would cut off its blood supply under its own weight, causing cell death in its lower portions.
