Common Eiders are circumpolar in their range, breeding along the coastline of Alaska, nearly the entire coastline of Hudson Bay and eastern Canada, as well as the northern coast of Maine. In the east, they winter from Greenland to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and south along the Atlantic Coast to Virginia. In the west, they winter south to southern Alaska.
While I was waiting for PenAir to actually get a plane into St. Paul, I took some time to bird Alaska east of Anchorage one day, and was lucky enough to stumble upon this female Spruce Grouse. I digiscoped it while it was in the shade of a stand of spruce trees. Digiscoped with a Leica D-Lux 5 camera and an APO Televid 65 scope. - Doug https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=464195003608877=a.464194920275552.120706.355103211184724=3
