Spectacular images of undulatus asperatus clouds were captured on Monday in Kentucky and southern Ohio and shared on social media.  Undulatus means wavy and asperatus translates as agitated or roughed, so the name is Latin for "agitated waves."

Mesmerizing Asperitas Clouds over KY | ASPERITAS, among newest clouds to be classified by the World Meteorological Organization. Asperitas, which translates to "roughness," was recently classified as a cloud type. Formerly known as undulatus asperatus, asperitas form when widespread cloud cover is disturbed by wind shear & turbulence, which creates waves in the clouds,  resuling  in clouds that resemble sea waves.
