Martin van Meytens (June 24, 1695 – March 23, 1770) was a Dutch-Swedish painter who painted members of the royal Court of Austria such as Marie Antoinette, Maria Theresa of Austria, Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, the Emperor's family and others. His painting style has inspired many other painters to paint in a similar format.
Marie-Antoinette 1755-1793 Marie-Antoinette was the queen consort of King Louis XVI of France. Imprudent and an enemy of reform, she helped provoke the popular unrest that led to the French Revolution and to the overthrow of the monarchy in August 1792.
Marie Antoinette's last letter to her children, stained by tears. I saw this letter in person in Paris at the exhibition for Marie Antoinette. I was really moved by her words. She was at the end and her heart was broken. The whole exhibit was an experience I'll never forget.
A pretty portrait of the young Marie Antoinette, painted in around 1774 by Jean Martial Frédou, an artist who was first painter for her brother in law, the Comte de Provence from 1776. It’s a lovely painting but as usual, the little Queen complained that it failed to capture a likeness.
My primary school had a drama group visit for two weeks and teach us about the French Revolution (aged 9). We learned the history and rehersed for a production. Ever since, i have been in love with Marie Antoinette.
