I once got to fly in, and briefly fly, a B-17G Flying Fortress and I loved this photo of a B-17G from head-on. My dad was a draftsmen working for Boeing in WWII on the B-17F and G and then on the top secret B-29 Superfortress.
The only European airworthy B-17 Flying Fortress. Officially called 'Sally B' she appeared in the film Memphis Belle hence the logo that appears on this side of the awesome war bird. Based in the UK at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. I have seen this fly and she is amazing!
The Schweinfurt–Regensburg mission was an air combat battle in World War II. A strategic bombing attack flown by B-17 Flying Fortresses of the U.S. Army Air Forces on August 17, 1943, it was conceived as an ambitious plan to cripple the German aircraft industry.
