Thanksgiving: Girl Praying, a Norman Rockwell painting, appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post published November

March 6, 1943: Norman Rockwell's "Freedom from Want" is published in The Saturday Evening Post. Rockwell had begun the painting the previous November -- the turkey shown is actually the Rockwell's family Thanksgiving turkey and the woman holding it was the Rockwell's cook. Rockwell's wife and mother also served as models in the painting. The work was not well-received in Europe, where people were starving and regarded it as a depiction more of overabundance than of Freedom from Want.

Norman Rockwell's classic painting depicting an American family celebrating Thanksgiving shows a fundamental part of the American dream.a happy family.
