Daytona Beach Florida first racing | The trip south ended in Daytona Beach Florida. Speed was already an important part of their tourist trade as many speed trials were run on Ormand Beach. The Utah salt flats were opened for speed trials and Daytona Beach was soon starving for tourists and for speed.
Miss Firecracker 400, Daytona Beach Race Track 1963. This race is a traditional Independence Day Celebration Race in Florida. Always on July 4th. At Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, FL 160 laps on a 2.500 mile paved track (400.0 miles). In 1963 the race was expanded from 100 laps to 160 laps, for a distance of 400 miles, and subsequently became known as the Firecracker 400. In the same year Fireball Roberts drove his '63 Ford to victory.
