We did a handfasting ceremony in addition to exchanging rings. The three ribbons were chosen as representations of us as individuals and as a family: a scrap string of lace from my wedding dress dress, a silver ribbon such as those used on military uniforms, and a brilliant blue ribbon to bring them together.
