The 1/4th Gordon Highlanders embark at Aberdeen for the rail journey to Bedford. Throughout the war, many Shetlanders were attached to the 1/4th Gordons. This would have been a common experience for so many Shetland soldiers during the Great War. Some would have left from Inverness, whilst others may have left from Edinburgh, Perth and Glasgow, depending upon which Regiment they were attached to.
