Robin McLaurin Williams (7/21/1951-8/11/2014) was born in Chicago. His mother, Laura McLaurin (née Smith), was from New Orleans. His father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams, was a senior executive at Ford Motor Company. He grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he was a student at the Detroit Country Day School, and later moved to Woodacre, California, where he attended Redwood High School in nearby Larkspur. Williams attained a full scholarship to the esteemed Juilliard School.
