The Frog mechanism is on the BEDROCK principle, which, due to having fully machined full-face bearing surfaces on both the frog itself and the seating pad in the body, again ensures absolute rigidity. These design features give the CLIFTON plane the most rigidly clamped cutting iron of any bench plane currently available.
The Clifton line of shoulder planes are the direct descendants of the legendary Preston planes of old. Preston was bought out during the Great Depression by the company that became Record. Later, Record passed the designs on to Clico Tooling, who produce the Clifton planes today.
