According to Swedish tradition, one almond is put into the rice pudding on Christmas day, and whoever finds it in their bowl gets a wish, so naturally, Annika and her brothers want it. This sentimental Christmas story is illustrated with gentle, warm-toned pictures, some of which are bordered with frames decorated with almonds and accompanied by additional pictures in sidebars.

One thing that I like about this older multi-holiday picture book series is that the plot lines are a little unusual. These can be a nice change when you've read a lot of books about Christmas trees and what we are thankful for, etc. They take place in a New England seaside town and feature a sea captain and a little girl. Just something different!
