Built 1904 by ALCo at Richmond Locomotive Works (just down the street a ways). Bought from Southern by ETWNC in 1952. Pulled freight between Johnson City and Elizabethton, TN until 1968. I heard this train roar by almost daily from the time I was 2 yrs old until I graduated high school. I crossed the tracks to get to school. Hopefully July 8, 2012 I'll be able to ride it from Johnson City to Knoxville as it returns to the area, for the first time since leaving 44 years ago.

From flying platforms to burrowing torpedoes. This slightly egotistical creation is mostly used around the city on high days and holidays. Customised Mechtorian toys by Mindstyle. Vinyl, Lead, ABS, Paper, Brass, Copper, Rubber, Steel, Wood’ Bamboo, Found Objects. For the Tarnished Daydreams show.

childhood memory: when we went with our Dad to cut fire wood, his teaching us to lay a penny on the train tracks so that, next time we visited, we would find the penny flattened by a train. he also taught us to put our ear to the track to listen if a train was coming-perhaps an old boy scout trick? Forest Park, Queens, NY

Laying pennies on the train tracks so that we'd have a flattened penny souvenir once the train rode across it. I remember doing this when Queen Elizabeth came through town waving from the caboose of the train to everyone.
