Cúmulo Messier 46 (M46, NGC 2437) y la Nebulosa planetaria NGC 2438. M4 es un cúmulo abierto en la constelación Puppis. Descubierto por Charles Messier en 1771. Edad estimada de unos 300 millones de años. El cúmulo contiene unas 500 estrellas de las cuales 150 son más brillantes que magnitud 13. Se desconoce la relación de la nebulosa planetaria NGC 2438 con el cúmulo; habitualmente se ha pensado que es un objeto en primer plano, pero otros estudios muestran que pueden estar asociados.

Messier 46 and Planetary Nebula 46 is an open star cluster located approximately light years away in the constellation of Puppis. The cluster is around 300 million years old and contains up to 500 member stars within its diameter.
