Robert Kushner. American artist.Kushner's paintings achieved their mature style in the late 1980s when the artist began to focus upon the theme of flowers. These paintings employed gold and other metal leaf, a fractured, almost cubist space, and a loose or free use of pattern that recalls the work of Matisse, who Kushner has cited as his single greatest influence. The works often take on a decorative, frieze-like format that recalls the art of Japanese screen painting.
