Metsä Wood’s City Above the City -design competition challenges architects to start building up. Why? Because wood is so strong yet light, that you can easily and quickly add new floors on top of existing structures. This means, that you can pay for the renovation of the whole building with the new, additional space. The potential is huge, as approximately one fourth of existing buildings are strong enough to carry additional floors made of wood.
