Frida Kahla  (1907-1954) Memory, 1937. In retaliation to Rivera's affair with her sister, Cristina, Kahlo stopped wearing Tijuana costumes & cut her hair. Beside her, in this painting, stand her alter egos: school girl clothes & Tijuana costume, both empty but equipped with 1 arm. Frida's armless, suggesting her impotence & her heart, huge because it feels too much, lies on the earth.
