Bobby Helms, of the now-iconic Christmas song "Jingle Bell Rock" spent many years living in the Martinsville area. His successful country solo career resulted in number one hits "Fraulein" and "My Special Angel" in 1957. "Jingle Bell Rock" was released two days before Christmas in 1957 and quickly rose to #6 on the charts, reappearing seasonally in the pop rankings for four of the next five years. Helms has be recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
