Scaligero Castle of the La Scala dynasty, Malcesine, Veneto on Lake Garda, Italy. The castle has medieval roots but as it was a fortress, it has been repaired numerous times and additions have been made in more recent centuries. by fuerst
Castel Requesens - Catalonia, Spain - Probably existing since the 9th century, the castle is mentioned for the first time in the 11th century. In the 19th century, the ruined castle was rebuilt in a neo-medieval style. The castle was extensively used after the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), when some modern constructions were added to the original structure.
Himeji Castle, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. This is one of the few castles that is an "original." Many Japanese castles were bombed out during WWII and rebuilt afterwards. Himeiji-jo did not suffer that fate and is intact in its original form. It is quite lovely inside and out.
