FREEDMEN'S TOWN "LITTLE HARLEM": Following the Civil War, thousands of freed Slaves, purchased land and built their homes along the Buffalo Bayou, dubbing the area “Freedmen's Town.”   Over sixty years the town thrived, with churches, schools, stores, theaters and jazz spots, earning Freedmen’s Town the nickname of “Little Harlem” by the 1920's.  The Great Depression caused many residents of Freedmen’s Town to lose their homes and move to other Houston neighborhoods.

Corpus Christi Church 161 Clark Street Buffalo, NY — construction began in 1907 and was completed in 1909, built due to the dense Polish population in the East Side of Buffalo. (2007) listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. (2014) crowdfunding campaign started to raise matching funds to restore the church's tower.
