On the night of December 16, 1773, Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty boarded three ships in the Boston harbor and threw 342 chests of tea overboard. This resulted in the passage of the punitive Coercive Acts in 1774 and pushed the two sides closer to war.
In contrast, the Continental Army was a rag tag bunch at best. There were no professional soldiers, few men had real fighting experience and there was little money for uniforms, weapons or training. Throughout the Revolutionary War, Americans lost more battles than they won.
Great Migration: In 1910, 90% of African Americans lived in the south. Most only really knew how to farm. Cotton prices fell greatly. At the same time, the north is in great need of men in the factories. Immigration was limited at this time, so African Americans could capitalize on the need for workers.
