Although humble in size, the elongated portrait shape of this work effectively draws upon Ukiyo-e Japanese prints. The artist creatively embraces an oriental atmosphere  while maintaining a traditionally western technicality, thus echoing the impressionistic style of Whistler. I adore the emerald colour of this kimono and find this piece a deeply thoughtful and elegant painting xx
