I found this statue in a garden near a yacht club on Lake Travis one day in Austin. It was just kinda there in the middle of nowhere and it had been corroded to form some interesting patterns. - Austin, Texas - Photo from #treyratcliff Trey Ratcliff at http://www.StuckInCustoms.com

Increasing Variety This is an interesting sculpture because of its variation in pattern and line. It gradually becomes less solid as it fades into lines flying away. This statue, even with this variation, still has a nice unified whole.

The Science of Salt The sprawling Realmonte Salt Mine of southern Sicily is a perfect location to experience the engineering feats of both nature and man. With over 100 km of tunnel cut into salt deposits at depths of up to 300 ft below sea level, a number of sites are of particular interest. Salt deposits in the geological record are broadly referred to as evaporites, as they precipitate from solution (such as seawater) when rates of evaporation are high. Naturally this only occurs in hot…

Verdigris Green: Yellowish green Verdigris came into English in the 14th century from the Anglo-French vert de Grece, literally, "green of Greece." Ancient Greeks manufactured this pigment by hanging copper plates over hot vinegar in a sealed container. When copper naturally oxidizes, a verdigris film forms on its surface. A moderate yellowish green that is greener, lighter, and stronger than tarragon or average almond green and paler and slightly greener than malachite green
