New fabrics from my latest trip to Hawaii, and so many ideas for my next Collection! Time to get ready for The Merrie Monarch Festival, Opening Sunday April 16, 2017. The week long cultural festival is held annually in Hilo, Hawaii.
Merrie Monarch 2015 (Kahiko Kane) - Halau Na Kamalei O Lililehua - These guys only compete once every 10 years. Their kahiko was Ka 'Aha Kilu Le'ale'a I Ka'akopua, telling the story of a festive kilu tournament and sailing trip to Ha'ena.
This past week was Merrie Monarch Festival week. I didn't do much to celebrate the annual festival, and I was away for part of the time anyway (work trip to Honolulu). Once again, I missed my favorite event (Friday's hula kahiko competition). In addition to the Merrie Monarch festivities, the Hilo High School gymnasium dedication was this weekend. I wasn't going to attend, but the boss asked The Help to help him (the governor was coming), and The Help graciously obliged.
