Building projects - Vikingeskibsmuseet Roskilde. The large Gokstad boat We built the largest of the three small boats found with the Gokstad ship. The boat is now used by the Viking Ship Museum for exhibitions and events both at home and abroad, and was therefore built as authentically as possible with radially cleaved planks, hand-forged clinker nails, woolen sail, linden bast rig and so on.
The faering pictured is a very fine replica of the Gokstad faering. Builder is Svein Erik Øya. It is as close as possible to the original in every detail. The boat is located in Sandefjord, Norway, were the Gokstad kystlag (The Gokstad ship guild) resides.
