WWI Postcard from American YMCA, AEF. History: Known today as the YMCA Ragger's Creed, text comes from 1906 hymn by Howard A. Walter. Walter joined the YMCA staff in 1913 and served as a Y Secretary in Lahore, India, where he died in 1918. Thomas Caldwell of the Oakland Y formed YMCA Ragger program in 1914, and "I would be true" was recommended as the Ragger's Creed by his colleague, Ray Ogden. It's unclear that Walter knew them, or that this card was connected to Ragger's program.
