The Grande Ballroom Synonymous with 1960s music in Detroit, the Grande hosted the Who, Fleetwood Mac, and Cream, among many others, before closing its doors after a few short years. The MC5 was the house band, and the Kick Out the Jams masterpiece was recorded here.
Ron Carter hails from Ferndale where he began studying cello. He then went to Cass Tech High School in Detroit where he was urged to take up bass because a black man had no future in classical music. He eventually earned a Master's Degree in double bass performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He has made over 2500 recordings on bass and cello.
