Covered in buttercream. Butterflies made with color flow icing. make butterflies "pop", made each wing separately, let them harden. Then, folded a piece of cardstock, lined with press n seal, piped body in the crease, place wings on either side. used triangle-shaped make-up applicators under the cardstock to prop up wings. When the bodies dried, "glued" them to a plastic dowel with icing, stuck them in cake so that butterflies didn't touch the buttercream.
Graduation cake, the fondant on the top of the cap didn't have time to harden, but otherwise, it was a success :)
Cars cake - Crushed Oreos for the road, worked great but regular frosting lines didn't stick to the road, freezing the frosting didn't work, would leave it out to harden next time
This is companion cube 1.2. The cake itself is a rum cake I made. I used my mini cake tins, sliced each cake in half and used 3 slices to get the cube shape. I used a white chocolate icing I invented and went from there. I'm going to work on the icing for next time as well as the cake batter. The cake was a bit too soft and the icing didn't harden as much as I was hoping. You guys will be the first to see 2.0!
Made this tonight and....it turned out good! The ribbon needs to be around the cake unless you use a hardening chocolate....or the kit kats will not be stable, but they do stay in place without. I didn't want to take any chances.
https://flic.kr/p/a9u3Q2 | Mum's watering can | 6" extended height. Mango cake with coconut ganache filling. Everything is edible except for the spout. Had problems with this cake but in the end, I was happy with it especially mum since she didn't expect it. The roses took me forever! The handle fell off. It didn't harden up during the week because of the VERY wet weather we've been having in Sydney. The painted grass on the edges of the board was inspired by someone whom I cannot for…
An alpine ski race cake for my nephew who is a ski racer. Two 3" cakes - one chocolate, one vanilla - stacked, torted, and carved into a slope. I made ski race wickets with actual banners on them, but I made them well in advance of the cake in order for them to harden and didn't have the correct cake scale at that time. Turns out they were too big, so I had to go with coloured toothpicks instead. Of course, the joke is with the skier balled up in snow at the bottom of the race course.
