Ginger Rogers was one of the most popular stars of the 1930s and early 1940s – and she appeared in an astonishing number of films, five of which are being screened at the Glasgow Film Festival, which starts next Thursday. What was particularly striking about Ginger was her hair, which seldom looked the same twice and which set one trend after another.

Ann Margaret upstages Elvis in Viva Las Vegas--which tends to be a lead-footed, dopey movie about Elvis and his racing car, which only barely involves these two together. But there is a singing/dancing part in the middle, in which she is just electric--and you see great the film might have been had the mediocre director and writer been flushed for a genuinely creative team. Alas, for it wasn't to be--and we have little to show of her intense chemistry.
