Across Third Street from the Southern Pacific train station in the '60's and '70's stood a San Francisco institution, the Doggie Diner. Part of a small local chain, its hot dogs fed an entire generation of railroaders and passengers until it closed in the 1980's. The building itself survived under different ownership until the 1990's, when it was replaced by a McDonalds. (photo 1974)
