WASHINGTON, D.C. As you might expect from a 4th of July parade through the nation’s capital, it’s all here—marching bands, military units, floats, political celebrities, and loads of colonial re-enactors hamming it up. The National Independence Day Parade route begins at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, and heads west past the Smithsonian (which has hosted the Folklife Festival on parade day) to conclude at 17th Street.

Circa 1975 - loved walking into Dayton's from 7th Street on a cold winter day - you always got a blast of warm air to take off the chill. Wish I could find pictures of what "old" downtown St. Paul looked like - it used to be such a fun place!

Painted on the side of Jesse Malin's bar, Niagara, on the corner of 7th Street and Avenue A. Being a punk rocker himself (Jesse was in Heart Attack and D-Generation and is now a solo act), I presume it was Jesse who commissioned this mural. I, for one, think it's damn cool, but am constantly amazed to see that no one has ever defaced it. Also, around the corner from this is the original site of legendary hardcore venue, A7 (long, long gone), which hosted seminal shows.
