First edition, first issue with the misprint “reponsive” on page 83 of volume 1. Five raised bands on each spine. All the page edges are marbled, with marbled endpapers. The gilt lettering on the spine is all but vanished (see photo). Aside from this the books are in very good condition. Little wear to the boards, their edges and corners. The binding is tight, solid and square. The pages are clean, crisp and have virtually no discoloration.
