"Hopefully Somebody Will Keep It Going" is the apt title for Episode 9 of MOONSHINE & MOJO HANDS — your free weekly web series that explores blues culture in Mississippi. Late-great bluesman Eddie Cusic provided the title. As he also said of his (then) 87 years on earth, "That's some miles on you, you know." WATCH & SHARE @ www.moonshineandmojohands.com Climb into our pre-owned Kia and ride the road to Greenville and Leland, Mississippi, this week.
The only "blues and exercise" event in the history of Mississippi! (Moonshine, soul food and BBQ aren't often seen at marathons...) Seriously, this is an excellent blues event every January in Jackson, MS. Come visit the Cat Head and Broke & Hungry Records booth.
The back of old Delta-born bluesman Big George Brock's last tour bus. It now sits quietly in a St. Louis junkyard. Fortunately, Theo Dasbach and I were able to rescue the back doors (shown here) for Theo's Rock & Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Painting by Carol Boss based on photo by Joe Rosen.
Gone but never forgotten... the late great James "T-Model" Ford made it into his 90s, playin' guitar and sippin' Jack Daniels. "See what you can get if you don't clown?" "Every town must furnish its own women." "I'm from the United States of Mississippi!" "It's Jack Daniel time..." He had a million of 'em (along with 6 wives and 26 kids). RIP.
Yours truly hanging out with "King of the Juke Joint Runners" Red Paden at his Red's juke a couple years back. Red offers up real-deal Mississippi blues Fri-Sun each week... along with a side of bull@#$!, of course... 'cause that's (as he would say), "just proper procedure!"
One of the last culturally-connected, traditional Mississippi Hill Country bluesmen — Mr. Robert "Wolfman" Belfour! He had a rough 2014 due to health issues, but he's on the mend and set for his comeback at 2015's Juke Joint Festival Kick-off on Thurs., April 9th, y'all! www.jukejointfestival.com
Ride shotgun with hosts Jeff Konkel and Roger Stolle as they travel Mississippi’s back roads in search of juke joints, house parties, moonshine and the musicians who keep this uniquely American art form alive. Weekly episodes will stream for FREE online.
