Over 5000, race fans converged on Taree Motorcycle Club over the weekend for the 2016 Troy Bayliss Classic. The newly resurfaced oil-based track didn’t disappoint, delivering some of the closest racing in the events four-year history, before the inclement weather set in, forcing the cancellation of the evening finals.
Jack Miller - P18 - "In qualifying I struggled to warm the tyre up and wasn't able to do a flying lap straightaway and then I ran out of time at the end of the session. I'm quite happy with my race pace and looking forward to making a strong start and seeing what I can do and fight for some points.”
1987 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner will again be leading the charge as rider ambassador, and he’ll be joined on track by a grid full of former Grand Prix heroes including seven-time GP World Champion Phil Read, triple GP World Champion ‘Fast Freddie’ Spencer, five-time GP winner Pierfrancesco ‘Frankie’ Chili, four-time GP winner Didier de Radigues, three-time 500 GP winner Garry McCoy and Brit hero Jeremy McWilliams, along with many other hard-charging ex GP regulars.
Brayden Elliott - "Receiving the call days before the event, arriving in America to race an R1 in a whole new championship with so many new aspects to learn certainly made me adapt quickly. The weather was crazy all weekend and unfortunately we went into qualifying with minimal dry laps where I then had an enormous high side damaging the bike beyond repair at the track."
