Blue Mosque or The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is an historic mosque in Istanbul. The mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior. It was built during the rule of Ahmed I.
Blue Mosque - The real name of the mosque is the Sultan Ahmet Mosque after which the Sultanahmet district is named. Sultan Ahmet (or Ahmed I) caused all kinds of controversy when he commissioned the mosque be built with 6 minarets.
